Does this machine (the 4432) have "box feed" or the traditional "arc feed"?

The machine has box feed. Now let me break this down to simple terms.Most sewing machines feed dogs( the part that moves the fabric under the needle) move in an arc. This mean they move up and down pulling the fabric each time they rotate to the top. This does not give constant pressure under the fabric and you can move it wheb the feed dogs are down. This may cause a skipped or uneven stitch. This machine has a box feed. This means the feed dogs do not move up and down in an arc. They move the fabric with a continuous pressure on the fabric. This is important when fabric is thick and when it is very thin. It has an adjustable feed which gives you the choice of the amount of feed or pressure. It also has a pressure adjustment on the foot so that you can choose how hard the pressure foot sets down on the fabric. This gives you the ability to adjust the feed to the fabric. For example  when you are sewing the butterfly stitch, you want an even pressure so the chain of butterflies is the same each time. You do not want to feed to fast so the pressure is set lower. If on the other hand you are sewing a lot of straight seams and speed is what you want then set more pressure on foot , and feed dogs all the way up. If it is a curve such as a sleeve where you want to go more slowly so you can feed the material in a circle. the feed at medium set and the pressure medium for the material being used will smoothly stitch the curve. Too fast and you can't turn the material as fast as it is going thru. The result is a overrun or bunching of material.  Since the bottom of the fabric feed faster than the top always lay the sleeve on the bottom. When the right speed is set the fabric can be eased into place without pinching..I hope this helps others understand the difference in box and arc.

can anyone tell me the difference between the singer 4432 and the 5532.  Is the 5532 worth the 199.99 vs the 99.99 for the 4432

I have not used or tried the H 5532, but looking on line it looks like the difference is the stitches on each machine.  Singer 4432 has basic stitches and Singer 5532 has more, but not too many.  The accessories are the same plus the machine runs the same.  I have really enjoyed the Singer 4432.  I can sew on thick fabrics like denim without hardly thinking about it.  If you like more decorative stitches then that one would be the one to go for. The rest is all the same.
