Possessed by an ominous creative vision and a chilling ability to keep audiences guessing until the very end, director John Carpenter is justifiably known as the Master of Fear for his body of mind-altering horror films that helped introduce the slasher genre to American audiences. The John Carpenter: Master of Fear Collection, featuring The Thing, Prince of Darkness, They Live and Village of the Damned, delivers all the shocks, suspense and sinister twists fans have come to expect. Dare to enter the world of John Carpenter: it’s a journey to the dark side of humanity that you won’t soon forget... The Thing In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and takes on the appearance of those it kills. They Live Aliens are gaining control of the earth by masquerading as humans and lulling the public into submission. Humanity's last chance lies with a lone drifter who stumbles upon a unique pair of sunglasses that reveal the terrifying and deadly truth. Prince of Darkness A group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister and inadvertently unleash a strange liquid from it. As the substance turns their co-workers into zombies, the remaining members realize they have released Satan himself. Village of the Damned After an unseen force invades a quiet coastal town, ten women mysteriously find themselves pregnant. A local physician and a government scientist join forces when the women simultaneously give birth…and the reign of terror begins. Review: Four great films! - Four great films in one small package! Review: Fun collection! Great for something different on Halloween!!! - I mostly bought this collection because it includes The Thing, but for the great price I figured I would buy this collection since it also includes 3 other films by John Carpenter that I had not seen before. Very fun if you want to watch some different movies that you probably haven't seen before, and great around Halloween when you want a fun movie night. Reviews: The Thing - 10/10, A horror classic that is still scary and horrifying today with outstanding practical effects. Prince of Darkness - 6/10, Strange horror movie. Good acting and interesting idea, but falls through in execution. The plot is complicated and jumps around, leaving something to be desired. They Live - 8/10, Iconic film. I was expecting a horror movie, but this ended up being more of an action movie with heavy political commentary about media, capitalism and their effects on society. Fun watch! Village of the Damned - 7/10, Fun supernatural horror about kids with psychic powers in a small town. Somewhat reminiscent of Children of the Corn.

Worth It For The Thing and They Live
This is a collection of four films. The best by far is "The Thing" with Kurt Russell. But two lesser known films are really excellent. "They Live" with surprisingly good actor "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is a creepy allegory about a surveillance state and waking up to soft tyranny. The best lines are "put the glasses on" and "I'm all out of bubblegum". Funny and yet profound, it is a creepy film with modern resonance relevant today. The next gem is "Prince of Darkness", about the return of the antichrist. If you buy into the premise, you'll enjoy the film. Suspenseful and dark, the film features a cameo of Alice Cooper. The last film is a remake of "Village of the Damned". I saw the original and it is better. This newer version has Superman Christopher Reeve and Kirsty Alley. It's an ok film, but definitely the runt of this litter.

The quintessential "Carpenter Starter Kit."
This set is a great introduction to John Carpenter's work, and a great value in general. The Thing and They Live are basically mandatory viewing for horror and science fiction enthusiasts, and Prince of Darkness and Village of the Damned (while certainly not perfect films by any means) are certainly interesting examples of Carpenter's style of film making, and certainly worth watching. Also, thank you so much for the movies being on single sided DVDs! I HATE double sided DVDs, they get scratched up easier, it's often difficult to identify which side is which, and they're just a pain to handle in general. This collection contains two single sided disks with two movies per disk, both of which are clearly labeled, perfect! I presume they're able to fit two movies per disk due to this collection's lack of special features, however as someone who's never cared about DVD special features, and probably never will, this is not a big drawback for me. I have no problem at all recommending this set for new the budding Carpenter fan or the budget minded horror consumer!

John Carpenter
All of these movies are pretty good. I hadn't seen The Village of the Damned, but no worries. With John Carpenter at the helm it was an entertaining hour and a half or so to watch as usual. Good buy!

Excelente compilado, considerar que al comprarlo es región 1, por lo que no cualquier dvd / blu rai lo lee, no tiene mucho contenido adicional y solamente cuenta audio y textos en ingles, si consideras esto es una buena compra.

"They Live", "The Thing" and "Prince of Darkness" have been some of my most favourite movies at all times when I was in high school. I used to watch these movies on movie channel. I have been looking for "They Live" dvd for some time, and this one dvd package contains all the best movies from John Carpenter. I am very pleased with the purchase.
