You know what old Jack Burton says..........
It's usually hit and miss when an older title makes its way to blu ray, but with this one I was pleasantly surprised. There is a little graining in the opening scene, but once that's out of the way and the pork chop express rolls in, the picture is great for it's age, a definite improvement over the DVD special edition from about 10 years ago! The action scenes don't suffer too bad with the movement/image splitting that occurs on many a blu ray. The sound is great, the vocals and sound effects are well balanced so you're not reaching for the remote to increase/decrease the volume between scenes. Blu ray extras are interesting too, interviews with cast and John Carpenter himself. I was just a little kid when the movie came out, but it was interesting to hear about the lack of support and advertising surrounding the films release by the studio. As a fan of the film, John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, this film succeeds on all levels, it's a film for everyone, and is a true 80's classic! A worthy blu ray purchase, go for the steelbook if you can!

Big Trouble in Little China (US Blu-ray version)
Director John Carpenter 1986 production which was a box-office flop combing as it does several genres in one film which are fantasy action adventure and kung- fu the story is about an all-American trucker who gets dragged into a century's old mystical war through no fault of his own as he and his friend Wang who are at the airport to pick up Wang's bride to be who just happens to have emerald green eyes this is the colour of eyes the evil sorcerer Lo Pan must marry to regain his physical form.Jack and Wang must save Wang's fiancée Miao Yin from Lo Pan and his henchmen and Jack must get back his stolen truck in the process all in Chinatown where magic seems to exist. This 50GB Region free disc was released in 2009 in the US and is encoded with the MPEG-4 codec in full 1080p resolution film is in the original Aspect ratio of 2.35.1 with English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48 kHz 24 bit) along with Russian, French, Spanish and Portuguese Dolby Digital 5.1, English and Thai Stereo audio tracks there are also subtitles in the following languages: - English for the hard of hearing, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Thai and traditional Mandarin. The Special features are as follows: - Audio commentary from John Carpenter and Kurt RussellAn All new 5.1 DTS Isolated Score trackDeleted ScenesExtended EndingVintage FeaturetteMusic VideoRichard Edlund interviewTrailers and TV spotsBehind the scenes GalleryDoing a direct comparison with the DVD the Blu-ray sound brings the audio track to life the dialogue is always clear and easy to understand and sound effects of the different clans fighting as they kick and punch at each along with the sound of hand-held weapons such as swords now crash and clang clearly out of the speakers and the picture doesn't have the fuzzy edges to the colour that the DVD has along with a better range of colours and the difference in the range of blacks is staggering in the scenes in the tunnels under Chinatown is so much better the detail of the faces and flesh tones of the actors is more realistic and the special effects for some reason don't seem so dated in the HD format the cover artwork is an improvement on the region 2 release of 2004 as well; worth the up-grade if you can find a copy at a low enough price...

Superior quality and nicer artwork than old DVD release. A must for Blu-ray Russell/Carpenter fans
This is a great improvement on the DVD. If you have a 48-52 inch TV you'll much prefer this upgrade to the old DVD release. The picture quality is very good and makes watching this film enjoyable again. I like the DTS 5.1 mix, sounds full and warm. (But I did listed to the old dvd which sounded sharper but not as dynamic. It's helpful that the film format is 2.35:1 these old film look better in this format on bigger TVs.I like the new packaging which can be flipped with an alternative cover like the old film poster, very good. This edition is basic plastic case. The extra's seem to be the same as old DVD but with new items which at first glance I missed! But this is whats included"Here is where Arrow vaults ahead - including all from the Fox Blu-ray, including the commentary, and adding over an hour's worth of new interview material with John Carpenter, Kurt Russell, cinematographer Dean Cundey, producer Larry Franco and Jeff Imada. There is also a liner notes booklet featuring new writing on the film by John Kenneth Muir, author of The Films of John Carpenter, a re-print of an article on the effects of the film from American Cinematographer, illustrated with archive stills and posters. "Booklet is nice too, good pictures and design.I think Arrow could have included some more extra's if they exist or a separate sound track surely they have the muscle to do this now.A UV or iTunes digital version would make this almost timeless. The Blu-ray menus could be a bit more dynamic and faster. Also they aren't that many chapters which is a bit annoyingGood release but not the ultimate release! Here's a full review by DVDbeaverhttp://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews46/big_trouble_in_little_china_blu-ray.htm
