Who will help Mossy return home to Lilypad Pond? Mossy, an amazing turtle with a gorgeous garden growing on her shell, loses her freedom when Dr. Carolina, a biologist, takes her to live in her Edwardian museum. Visitors flock to see Mossy, but it is Dr. Carolina's niece, Tory, who notices how sad Mossy is living in a viewing pavilion. She misses the outdoors and her friend, Scoot. Dr. Carolina finds a way to keep the spirit of Mossy alive at the museum. She invites Flora and Fauna to paint Mossy's portrait. Then she and Tory take Mossy home, where Scoot is waiting for her. Jan Brett fans will pore over the colorful paintings of Lilypad Pond and lush borders displaying wildflowers, ferns, butterflies and birds in contrast to elegant spreads of the museum filled with visitors in stylish Edwardian dress and exquisite borders of shells, rocks, crystals and birds' eggs. MOSSY gives readers a fascinating look at nature in the wild and on display in a natural history museum. Review: Love this book! - Absolutely love this story!! Mossy is a wonderful story!
I have always loved Jan Brett books. Her stories have a nice lesson to be learned about being kind and the illustrations are beautiful. I love nature, especially wildflowers and I thought I could use it to help me with my own painting. I bought one for my niece and loved it so much I bought one for myself. The lesson teaches children the importance of letting animals stay in their own habitat. I highly recommend it.

What's so special about your home?
I am a fan of Jan Brett's books, but I especially love this one because of the way it teaches children that everything in nature has a place (or niche) where it belongs. Taking an animal away from its habitat creates a problem for the biome. With this book, Jan Brett skillfully presents a deep and difficult to understand concept on a level a child will love and want to hear about over and over again!

A beloved classic!
This is such a beautiful book my 2 year old reaches out for it every day. The beautiful illustrations and details add on to the enriching story. A very important lesson for kids and adults to set free what we like and not put animals in captivity.

Beautiful book, lovely colors and detail, nice story.
This is a beautiful book about a turtle that grows a garden on its carapace. She falls in love with a turtle named Scoot who Iives by the same pond, but then Dr Carolina takes her away to put her on display in her museum. Her niece however sees that the turtle is unhappy, so they find a way of keeping the beauty and memory of Mossy alive at the museum while releasing Mossy back into the wild where she reunites with Scoot. As usual, breathtaking illustrations by Jan Brett which invite the reader to discuss the story and pictures with the kids, and a sweet unique plot.
