How does it stay on/in position?

There are little combs on the inside but in my opinion they don't do much. Theres also a black strap attached to it that you would hide under your hair and it goes around the nape of your neck. That's the best way to do it and I'm blonde and can hide it

Of course, you can. Anything is possible with a pair of scissors. You won't damage the hat itself. Since I have this hat, I can say that the little bit of netting can be reduced or removed without harm.
