Can you upload the video footage to a cloud storage like google drive instead using a hdd to store the footage

Yes , you can use Danale cloud service instead of a hdd ,but the cloud service is paid per month . A hdd is better for long time use .

Will this record without the hard drive? And be available for playback?

you can record BUT space is very limited, and the more cameras you have, faster it fills up. depending on manufacturer it can be a 4 camera system and fill up every 24 hrs...hard drive is a must

Can the cameras be replaced/upgraded to a higher resolution, like 3mp?
