Are the covers thick or will a colored pillow insert show through?

I placed it over a pillow with writing g in it. I cant see through it. It is a thick canvas pillow cover.

This says 1 x pair. Does that mean 2 pillow coverings?

I purchased these in November of 2016 and it was a pair of pillow covers - quantity 2 pillow covers.

What is the on the back side?

The back is just covered in the solid black fabric…
