Best shampoo for gray hair
I am a 76 year old with gray hair and this is the second bottle I’ve ordered of this shampoo. This time I ordered the conditioner as well. I love the way it softens my hair plus the color.

Great for Brassy Highlights!
I recently got my hair highlighted. I knew it was going to be a gamble as my stylist was highlighting over DIY color that had red and gold undertones. When I left the salon, I wasn't super happy with how my hair looked because it was showing a lot of warmth - some pieces even looking orange. I tried to use the purple shampoo I had on hand at home and it really didn't do much to correct the issue. I ordered this product after reading promising reviews. I applied this shampoo on dry hair and left it on for 30 minutes. As you can see by the pictures, after one use there was a huge improvement in the brassiness of my hair. The shampoo is a bit drying but that is something I can deal with if it helps tone down the hair. I will continue to use this shampoo on a regular basis to keep the highlights looking nice and ashy.

Only blue shampoo I trust!
I have been using this shampoo for a couple of years now and I won't try anything else. I love the smell - it reminds me of a shampoo or soap I had as a child but can't place the exact scent. It's very faint and you can't really smell it unless you hold it to your nose. I have brown hair with blond balayage and I use the shampoo every two or three nights and as long as I'm consistent with it, it works wonders. I usually lather my hair and leave for five minutes then apply another coat to sit in my hair, then wait a few more minutes and rinse it really well. This shampoo is not overly moisturizering but after conditioning it feels fine. Your hands might have a blue tint to them after using but it rinses off instantly, just be sure to wipe any splatters or blue water off the tub or shower. I haven't left it sitting so I don't know, but I feel letting the residue sit will definitely stain. I highly recommend this and if you're on the fence, I say go for it. You can spend $10 on a cheap drug store brand and risk it not doing its job or you can put $15 with it to get a huge bottle that does a great what it is supposed to do.

More moisturizing than purple by same brand
I ordered Joico's blue shampoo to give it a try and compare it with their purple version. I was sent the conditioner in error but then sent the shampoo free without the need to return the conditioner. So this review is my experience using both the Joico Color Balance Blue Shampoo and Conditioner. First, my hair. I've been letting my natural hair grow out for the past 10 months after almost 30 years of coloring it to hide silvers. When I began this process I had my stylist put in high and low lights and use toner to mask my grow out. I wish I'd not done that though, as the processing - particularly the lightening of my naturally dark brown hair - really fried it! I tried for several months to deep condition, but eventually had my hair cut shorter and after three sessions of toner stopped any processing of my hair. Much to my surprise and delight, my new hair growth is soft, shiny and curlier than I ever expected. Unfortunately, though, the remaining colored & lightened hair tends to get brassy, thus my use of purple and with this product, blue shampoos, and conditioners to add an ashy tone to eliminate the red-orange ones. As for Joico Color Balance Blue, I tried it because I was hoping it would be even better than their purple, which works OK for me. I also use Joico's Color Butter in Titanium to add more ash tones when I'm feeling like I want something a little darker than my blondish-brown ends. Joico Blue is very blue and that is good! The deep tones neutralize blorange and did work on my hair to take out the brass. Surprisingly to me, it did not work better than the purple version, or rather it worked different.y. The blue was less drying to my hair - both the shampoo and the conditioner, which I really liked. As for its ability to neutralize orange brassiness - it was OK but seemed less effective than the purple. Maybe it's the phase of my hair's grow out or the lightening that's been done on my naturally brown-silver hair that was colored dark brown before that, but the resulting color after using the Joico Color Balance Blue was a flat, dull, non-descript blonde brown. So I liked that the Joico Color Balance Blue Shampoo and conditioner worked well together to moisturize my hair and that it did neutralize brassiness. What I wish was better was that it left behind a dull, flat tone that looked somewhat unnatural - even more than my colored hair! The purple was better in terms of its coloring (toning) effects on my hair, but it was more drying. I'm not sure why this is and I'd have to say that the only way to know which one is for you is to give them a try. I will continue to use this product as it did not harm my hair, didn't smell bad and while not exactly as I'd hoped, it's pretty good.

Works little by little
I have posted 3 pictures. First one is before using this shampoo. The 2nd one is after 1 wash(let it sit for 5mins) and the 3rd is after the 2nd wash(let it sit for 10mins). I washed my hair 2 days in a row with just the shampoo. I did not order the conditioner, since it’s about $45 together. It got rid of some of the brassiness. I will probably have to tone my hair again using T27 to get the rest of the brass out. I had originally used T28. I was going for a more natural look. I had gotten my hair to level 7 or 8 before toning. When I used this shampoo it left my hair feeling like straw, definitely use a hair mask after or deep condition it. Warning though, it dyes your skin blue for little bit. So if you get it on your face, wipe off immediately.

Great product. We'll use again
I'm really happy with this product. I always thought I had to use purple shampoo with my hair, but when I read a little further it seems that because my hair is brown blue is actually the color I should be using in my hair. And this seems to do the trick actually much better. My blonde is much brighter and this shampoo actually leaves my hair much softer. I am very happy with this product and will buy it again. I use this and the conditioner together.

Really toned down the brass and keeps my dyed hair in check!

Works very well at canceling orange tones on brown hair at least that is where I tried it. It is however drying to the hair so step up the care if you use it.
