Discover how Jack Frost keeps the hearts of children happy in the third picture book in Academy Award winner William Joyce’s New York Times bestselling and “dazzlingly inventive” ( Publishers Weekly ) The Guardians of Childhood series. Before Jack Frost was Jack Frost, he was Nightlight, the most trusted and valiant companion of Mim, the Man in the Moon. But when Pitch destroys Mim’s world, he nearly destroys Nightlight too, sending him plunging to Earth where, like Peter Pan, he is destined to remain forever a boy, frozen in time. And while Nightlight has fun sailing icy winds and surfing clouds, he is also lonely without his friend Mim. To keep the cold in his heart from taking over, he spreads it to the landscapes around him and earns a new name: Jack Overland Frost. But a true friend always comes through, and on one particularly bleak night, Mim shines down and shows Jack a group of children in great peril. Through helping them, Jack finds the warmth he’s been yearning for, and realizes bringing joy to others can melt his own chill. It is this realization—that there will always be children who need moments of bravery, who need rosy cheeks, who need to build snowmen, and who are then eager for a spring day—that makes Jack realize why he is a forever boy, and worthy of becoming a Guardian of Childhood. Review: William Joyce's JACK FROST is my all time favorite one! - William Joyce has once again captured the wonder of childhood with Jack Frost's story. Told in the same fashion, and given the same visually stunning, old-fashioned illustrations, the story of Jack Frost is as mesmerizing as the first two books in The Guardians of Childhood series, The Man In The Moon, and The Sandman. The long awaited arrival of this book's release lives up to all that I had hoped it would be and more. I've long been a fan of William Joyce's The Guardian's of Childhood series. These books are some of our all time favorite children's picture books. Not only are the illustrations visually stunning, the stories themselves are captivating for readers of all ages. Learning about Jack Frost's origins, and his history with the Man In The Moon is something I absolutely loved reading about. Jack Frost's story is one of courage, and valor. I have always admired his character, but do so even more, now that I know more about him. The story about Jack Frost is about who Jack was before he became Jack Frost, how he became Jack Frost, and what he does now, as a Guardian of Childhood. Beautiful art, follows the book series not the movie
This picture book goes with the book series "The Guardians of Childhood" by William Joyce, and NOT the movie inspired by that book series, "Rise of the Guardians". It seems there's a lot of people confused by this. This is not the origin story of the movie!Jack Frost, but the book!Jack Frost. The art is gorgeous - its colorful and bold and is far beyond what you would expect from children's books. The story is a touch confusing because it is a simplified and condensed version of book!Jack's origin, but if you're a fan of the book series it's perfect. The art alone made this a worthwhile purchase.

Just as beautiful as all his other books
I discovered the art and stories of William Joyce several years ago, and I was so excited to see that he had come out with a new Guardians of Childhood book. Jack Frost is just like all his other books: the artwork is incredible, the story is wonderful and both of those elements will keep children (and parents) spellbound. It's one of those books you'll want to have in your library forever and ever--not just for your children but for your own enjoyment, too. I have loved all of Joyce’s work and can’t wait to see what he comes out with next.

Great for Adults and Kids
Relative to a lot of other books out there, I really enjoy reading these books to my 4yo... and since I'm the one reading them, that's kinda important. My son is good with them--the art is fantastic--although the writing is merely decent.

Great addition to the other 2 stories- Man in the Moon and Sandman. Very richly illustrated. Story line ties in well to the other 2 stories. A very creative way to explain the story of the childhood fantasy character Jack Frost. The series holds to attention of our four year old daughter even though the stories are longer. Can't wait to see what other stories are made in this series.
